Finding time to do development really is the hardest part, isn't it? My own Android game is still very preliminary, and between work, wife and kids, my best time for development is on the bus/tram to and from work during the week.
Still, the roadmap looks like 1.2 isn't far off!
At the risk of delaying things, I have another suggestion

When you're populating the random cargo of a merchant ship, it would be cool if you checked the local port (if there is one) and if it has a surplus or a shortage of a particular good, have a chance that the ship will be carrying that good.
The rationale is that if it's a surplus, the ship is leaving with a hold full of the cheap good, and if it's a shortage the ship is arriving with that good hoping to make a profit.
The gameplay effect is that rumours about surplusses/shortages in foreign nations' cities are of interest even when you've managed to infuriate every nation but your own, because you can still take advantage of the information by lurking outside the city.
(Mmm, Gem Bonanza
