Version 1.1.7
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:49:26 PM »
Fixes the carronade bug and a few other minor issues. Hope this will be the last bug fix before I get the first part of the job/mission structure in place and create a 1000 new bugs.  :P

Didn't do anything about fixing the surplus in this release. You still shouldn't have gotten 0 weapons, though.  :(

First, thanks for the update--I'm really glad to have the carronades thing fixed.

I almost don't want to post anything at the risk of frustrating our dear developer, but I've got another one.  I got this in 1.1.6, so if it's one of the minor bugs fixed, all the better.

Sometimes I'm not allowed to purchase improvements even though I can afford them.  I naturally try to deck my ship out with all the improvements I can get, and I didn't notice anything in the documentation that would limit what I'd be allowed to buy.

Just checked the release notes to 1.1.7, looks like he fixed the chainshot thing before I even reported it!

Perish the thought.

I suspect you have the 20% discount on improvements in that shot? Looks like I forgot to apply the discount when checking cost against your gold. Noted.

The bug mentioned in the release notes is different; the problem was that NPC ships were not generating with Chainshot/Grapeshot.

Sorry for my first post to be a bug report, but I searched and couldn't find this in the known issues list.

When I raised my Sailing skill to 10, the Fencing skill button greyed out rather than the Sailing one (I had two skill points to spend at the time, so it was particularly notable).  As an experiment, I then added an 11th point to Sailing.  My Fencing skill was 5 at the time.

In case it's relevant, I have a Motorola Milestone (aka Droid), and I was playing a test game (Fountain of Life, Apprentice difficulty).

Another thing which perhaps doesn't qualify as a bug, but which is slightly annoying, is when you're creating a New Pirate: if I edit the pirate's or ship's name before assigning my skills, each time I hit a + or - skill button, the screen scrolls back to the top (or rather, back to the textbox with the focus), requiring me to manually scroll back down to modify the next skill.

But the bug reports are the best post :).

Good find about skill 11, will try to replicate.

Second report is already reported, and Strategy is trying to fix it. A temp fix is to scroll down with your navigation key.

Welcome :)

Edit: Can confirm this bug. Got sailing 11 to (was in a port). Tried to get fencing 11 with low sailing but that did not work.

Great, thanks!

I didn't actually think to say in my original post, but awesome game, BTW!  I'm thoroughly sucked in - I keep pulling out my milestone and firing it up whenever I have a spare moment.

Welcome to the board, RR.  I'd seen the scrolling one, but never figured out why it sometimes scrolled up and sometimes didn't--so that was cool of you.

I saw the greying out of a skill once in a while, but thought there were just arbitrary caps on my skill levels that I just didn't know about.  Thanks for submitting that, and to Strategy for getting them fixed so fast!

It's (usually) easy to fix bugs when I get such good bug reports - for which I thank all of you who are participating on the forum as well as the handful of people who have sent me e-mails with detailed feedback.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone!

This game is sucking far too much of my time :)  It's like Peter Sproink's Space Trader on my Palm all over again...

I have another buglet... not much information on how to reproduce it, unfortunately.  I had a Governor (in Port Royale) tell me that Great Britain was "at war with Spain and Spain."  After I saw this, I quit out of P&T without doing anything more in the game to see if I could find a screenshot app in the market to send a shot along with this post (which I can't do without rooting my device, apparently).  Interestingly, when I resumed the game (from the front screen, "Continue") and visited the Governor again, the string was correct: "at war with Spain."

I have a couple of feature suggestions, too:
  • It would be nice if there was a way to review the "log messages" that appear at the bottom of the map screen (such as "You have gained a skill point," "You are low on food" etc.).  On occasion I've left port and selected a region and hit "Move" and then thought "hang on, that message I didn't read looked longer than normal" or similar.  It could be a separate screen, or some way to scroll back through them while remaining on the map screen.
  • The context-sensitive help is great, but it would be good if, once you're in the help, there was a way to access a top-level contents page with links to all the help pages, so you can read the help for parts of the game you're not in.  Occasionally I want to e.g. check which ports make a particular trade good when I'm at sea, but you can't read the Merchant help screen unless you're in a Merchant's shop.

Thanks again for this fun game!

I went through the same thing and walked away screenshotless as well and resorted to taking pictures of my screen with my camera, kinda weak.

I second both of his suggestions.  I miss stuff at the bottom of the screen all the time, especially when they come in back-to-back but I've already moved on from that turn and they pile up.  And I always want to know the best place to sell plundered loot but first have to guess a town to go to, visit their merchant, and then figure out where to set sail for.

I've got another buglet, but really it's just a readability thing.  If you hold a letter of marque from one nation and a rank from another nation, it is listed confusingly on the pirate status screen.  It currently says something like:   "French Commodore Letter of Marque (Dutch). Notorious (Spain)."  I think adding in the missing period or putting the rank's nationality in parentheses would make that easier to figure out.

I third this  (sp?) :p

I also think the list of nation descriptions looks very confusing with all in same sentence.

In the map help screen, it mentions that the flag displayed represents the country that currently controls the territory.  Do territories ever flip nationality through wars in the game or along some historical timeline?  That sounds cool but I've never noticed it happening.

v1.1.7 motorola droid kernel v2.6.29

Awesome game, I play this all the time.

I did notice that if you have a cargo rating of, say, 30, and you take, for instance, a treasure galleon with a cargo rating of 60, you can seize the treasure galleon, take all the cargo (up to 60 at least), and then seize your ship back, but you keep the 60 cargo (it displays as 60/30).

Thanks for the great game!

I knew it was just a matter of time before someone reported the exploit that's accounted for my pirate fortune (which invariably sinks to Davy Jones' locker with me).  Maybe I just pretended I was towing the wrecked cask of the defeated ship back to port with me.

Speaking of Davey Jones' locker, when you get sunk the status message doesn't have that possessive apostrophe in it.

Bugs noted. Thanks all.

Not yet. Once port attacks get implemented, I will also implement more dynamic wars so that the political landscape will change during the course of the game.
