By the look of the reviews on the android marketplace, this game has gotten to be really popular.  Can you share any stats about how many times it's been downloaded and how frequently someone new tries it out?

Although I am very happy with the reception for P&T, it is still far from the level of the really popular Android games.

Currently the game is sitting around 25,000 downloads with a 45% retention rate (which I think is fairly good), so it's on average around 500 downloads per day.

That's staggering if you think about it, though.  Awesome.

By the way, the top downloaded Android games are barely games if you ask me:  Solitaire, TossIt, Jewels, Sudoku, stuff like that.  I still haven't found a game as in depth or replayable as P&T.

That being said, one of the first games I downloaded was A Brief History of Rome and never could figure out how to play it (probably a poor reflection on me, despite my preference for turn-based strategy games and predilection for anything related to classical history).

Well, I think Jewels is somewhere up around 2 million downloads, so in the grand perspective...  ;D

Heh. BHR is somewhat of a niche title. BHR is a descendant of Annals of Rome, and I guess it says something about my taste in games that it AoR remains one of my favorite games ever. BHR started life as an experimental project on the desktop, though, and that definitely affects how well it works on the phone. If I were to do another pure strategy game on the mobile - as I have a mind to try at some point - I'd look to go with some very different game mechanics.
