Poster Rankings?
« on: November 14, 2001, 12:29:13 PM »
And now for something completely different...

Just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions for the forum post rankings system? Currently it is set to Roman civilian titles: quaestor (at 25 posts), aedile, military tribune, praetor, etc. The old messageboard had a system based on military rankings (kicking in with Decurions at 10 posts, and going up from there).

Which one do people prefer? Any suggestions for an alternative system (in the theme of the game, of course)? :)

Thought I'd try before Nikanarchon gave the definitive Macedonian/Successor list

Starting from top (I'm sure I've got spelling wrong where I've stuck "s" on end of class of people e.g., Hetairoi)  Anyway, plenty of teh phalanx at end though you could stop at Tetrarch.  Definitely missing ones in middle but plenty o names

Basilios
Somatophylakes
Megistoi
Strategos
Hetairos
Ilarchos ?
Syntagmatarch
Taxiarch
Tetrarch
(Dilochites,Lochagos,Ouragos,Hemilochites)

Taking from Greek - Hegemon/Tyrant but not sure where in rankings

Well given the theme is the rise of Rome, it would be a bit tough on those poor barbarians to impose a civilized Greek military system! :-)
But how about the ranking system from the Mysteries, which were popular from Iberia to India. Someone would have to dig these as I don't have them available here, but as I recall, there was a system with some 30 odd ranks starting at neophyte and rising up. May have been many more ranks.

The mysteries sounds like an interesting alternative. But weren't there different names in the various religions?

Anyway, if anyone can dig up a suitable list (10-15 ranks) then I'd be happy to put this in place instead of the current system.
