More Screenshots?
« on: November 24, 2001, 08:14:55 AM »
If it's not too much trouble, would it be possible for you to put up a strategic screenshot showing political control of the entire Imperium game world? Also, could you make a few regional screenshots showing cities, sort of like the Italy one that already exists, showing places like Carthage, Macedonia, Syria/Mesopotamia, and Egypt?

I want to (and I'm sure others do as well) get more of a feel for what the starting positions of the different countries will be like.

Well the strategic situation is pretty fluid depending on which scenario you're playing. For the grand campaign, I'm still researching the precise setup, as 270-265 BCE are one of those periods for which almost no good sources exist. So I don't thinkšthis makes much sense to put up at the moment.

Scheduled web-update is coming up on Dec. 1, so I'll see if I can put up some regional screenshots as well at that time.

I understand your difficulty. I have also tried to find such sources showing the strategic situation in detail around 270 BCE, to no avail. Oh well, I'm sure you'll find something eventually, good luck.  :)

Have you tried the map from the freeware game Imperial Conquest? I think that is set at about the right moment in time.

Too imprecise. Simply put, I don't think there exist any firm sources that allow us to determine exactly who owned what in 270-265, as (IIRC), the only source we have Diodorus Siculus, and he is anything but complete.

I don't consider it a huge problem, though. New screenshots will be coming up in the December update, DE.  8)

The problem with that map is that many of the smaller nations are grouped into a larger one for simplicity (Greece, etc.). Also, the map is cut off at Mesopotamia, so it contains no information on the eastern boundries of the Seleucid Empire, the Mauryan Empire, and the various tribes of central Asia.

Very nice screenshots!  :)

I understand that the graphics shown will not be the final graphics, however I would like to know what the different shapes of the cities (circles, squares, hexagons) represent.

Also I'm assuming that the colour of the city outline represents the controlling nation, but what do the different colours within the outline mean (dark green, light green, brown, yellow, red, black, etc.)?

From memory:
Circle Shape = Little or No Fortification
Hexagon Shape = Medium fortification
Square Shape = Strong fortifications

Outline Color = Nation
Red and White = Most Minors

Inner Color of Node = Terrain
Green = Clear/Farmlands
Light Green = Plains/Steppe
Dark green = Forested/Rough
Brown = Hilly/Rough
Red = Mountaineous

Traversal Edges
White = Normal
Light Blue = Coastal (Land + Naval allowed)
Blue = Sea
Dark Blue = Deep Sea (Risk of Storms)
Red = Mountain
Black = Straits

I noticed that Memphis has a population of 720,000 and taxes of 28,800,000. I'm assuming this is quite alot. I'm dying to know, what is the population and taxes of Alexandria? :)

The tax numbers are way off base; IIRC, there are 3 or 4 zeros too much being multiplied on the number. So don't read too much into those.

The population numbers are also quite preliminary. I think Alexandria's pop base currently is around 900k-1,2M at the moment, but it will need to be adjusted. It will be the largest city on the map, though.
